About Me
Staying Safe While Using Your Storage Unit

After I started using my storage unit to house extra business supplies, I realized that there were a few precautionary measures that I needed to take. In addition to keeping pallets from being stacked too high and installing lighting to avoid trip and fall hazards, I also asked the management team to install a light outside of the unit to fend off intruders. I felt silly at first when I asked for the changes, but they made a big difference when it came to my overall comfort at the facility. If you are moving to a new home, it can get expensive by the time you purchase boxes that you need and hire a moving truck to move your things. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to help you save some money during your move. Follow the two tips below, and you will have more money in your pocket.

Save Money On Boxes

Instead of purchasing a lot of moving boxes, use items in your home to pack your things in. Suitcases work great for your clothing. Most suitcases are durable and you can pack other things in them, such as your books and electronics.  This can be very useful if you have a lot of suitcases. If each person in your family has one, have each family member pack their things in their own suitcase. This means when you get to your new home, they will already have some of their things with them.

Garbage bags can be used to wrap up your hanging clothes. This works well if you are moving a short distance. Wrap the bag around a lot of hangers, and then when you get to your new home, hang the clothes on the closet rod and take the bag off.

Do not remove your clothing from your dresser drawers. Simply keep it inside, and wrap the dresser up with plastic wrap to secure the drawers.

Use all those bags you have around your home to move small items. You could use things like gift bags, gym bags, shopping bags, and backpacks. Place these items in your car, as they would be damaged if placed in a moving truck.

Save Money by Shutting Things Off

One thing to consider when moving to a new home is shutting down your cable and Internet. Some companies will not prorate your bill to your moving date. This means even if you move in the middle of the month, you would still have to pay for the entire month. Even though doing without these things may seem bad, you could survive without cable and the Internet for a couple of weeks. This would even give you and your family more time to spend with each other.

Talk with the moving company about any discounts they can offer you. For example, they may charge less if you move in the middle of the week instead of on the weekend. Visit http://www.bekins.com if you're looking for a moving company.
